OSM Safety Awareness Brown Bag Workshop (Learning How to Safely Help Others)

An individual approaches you for money and they get angry and aggressive when you say “no.” What do you do? How can you protect yourself? How can you prevent such a thing from happening? Lt. Patrick Merrill from the Grand Rapids Police Department will answer all these questions and more on Tuesday, May 19th from 12-1pm. Bring your sack lunch to ACCESS of West Michigan 750 First St, NW. Lt. Merrill will address the issue of safety for pastors, deacons, volunteers and church staff who work in the area of benevolence. He will provide tips or suggestions to better protect yourself from any potential harm or danger as individuals approach your congregation from off the street. He will also show you how to watch out for red flags from an individual’s body language, tone of voice, as well as what level of aggression should be deemed as a threat as individuals approach for assistance. Another topic to be discussed is how to create a safety protocol for your congregation or pantry. Sign up today for this free workshop!
