Care Week Food Drive

Purpose: A holiday food drive at Southwest area schools, designed to stock local food pantries and feed needy children.
Dates: Food items are collected each day during the week before Thanksgiving

In 2009 South West schools combined their efforts and collected over 13 tons of food to benefit different food pantries on the southwest side. Thank you to all who participated! Click here to see the 2009 Care Week Report. We hope even more schools can join us this year. See below to sign up.

Resources Available to Schools:

  • Boxes to store the food in during the collection period
  • Pick-up of the food after the last collection date
  • Food collection suggestions, which can be copied and sent home with the children
  • Coloring Sheets to use with the younger children which pertain to food and nutrition
  • For additional information, please contact Access.

We are so grateful for the many schools who continue to sign on to participate in Care Week each year. Food security is one of the most fundamental essential needs a family can have. Rather than be overwhelmed by the great need we are currently experiencing, we celebrate the response from those who are able to share. One grocery bag at a time, we are making a difference for our neighbors in need.

Our sincerest thanks to all the principals, teachers, school secretaries, support staff, parents, students, and pantries who have shown an unwavering commitment to addressing hunger needs in our community.  Care Week 2009 is November 16-20.  Plan to join in!
