When Helping Hurts

“Do you ever wonder if efforts to help the poor actually do any good?  Does there need to be more investigation into how you give than just good intentions?  How can you truly make a difference in the lives of poor people?  Which types of ministries should you fund?”

Come and learn about some practical principles that are relevant for any ministry context that will help you accomplish a fundamental goal in all your giving.

Here is a flyer about WHEN HELPING HURTS – How to Alleviate Poverty without Hurting the Poor…and Yourself, an upcoming workshop at Park Church, co-sponsored by Good Samaritan Ministries, Classis Holland CRC and RCA; Holland Deacon’s Conference, Journey – Western Theological Seminary, and Classis Zeeland CRC and RCA and Park Church.

Oscar Mayer Good Mood Mission

“The Oscar Mayer Good Mood Mission” campaign turns America’s good moods into pounds of food for Feeding America. Oscar Mayer kicked off the campaign with a donation to Feeding America with a financial equivalent of 1 millions pounds. In addition, for every “good mood moment” America creates or shares on www.GoodMoodMission.com, Oscar Mayer will donate actual food to reach their goal of 2 million pounds.  Check it out!

Thanks to all of you who came to Founders Brewing Co. on Sunday, May 23 for the 10th Feedback benefit concert. The weather was warm, but we had a great time raising money for Access and listening to The Honeytones, Flashback, and The Concussions!

Providing a place at the table

Today we bring many programs and services to the table. But most of all, we provide a place for the community to act–for those with resources and talents to interact and problem-solve with the big issues of poverty and people in need. We have been working diligently over the past year to update our branding and give a new face to Access. We are very excited to launch our new brand look and tagline, which is “Providing a place at the table.”

Our three initiatives, Hunger Response, Casework Services, and Poverty Education, represent the three legs of the table in our new logo. If you are interested in eliminating hunger and reducing the impact of poverty in our community, we welcome you to sit with us at the table. Without you as partners and friends, we would not be able to respond to the many needs in our community.

Access would like to thank our Brand Advancement Committee for their time, effort, and input over the past year regarding our new look, as well as a special thank you to Rachel Hyde for partnering with Access through her artistic and graphic design talents.

Another Successful Food for Families!

Access would like to say a huge THANK YOU to WZZM, Spartan Stores, and all of the Kent County donors who participated in 2010 Food for Families! Together we collected over 200,000 pounds of food to help stock up the food pantries for the summer months.

Check out some videos from 2010 Food for Families:

Another huge thanks to Two Men and a Truck, Rhoades McKee, Lamar Construction Company, D&W Fresh Market stores, Family Fare stores, Felpausch, and 95.7 W-Lite for partnering with Food for Families!

Walk to Fight Hunger

On Saturday May 1st, hundreds of individuals will come together to participate in the 33rd Annual GRACE Hunger Walk. Donations that walkers collect will be distributed among local and international organizations to support their work in fighting hunger. The Access pantry network receives some of the proceeds.

Participating in the 2010 Hunger Walk is simple! Collect pledges for walking either 5K or 12K and help raise awareness for agencies working diligently to combat hunger’s effects. Consider taking an hour out of your Saturday morning to help fight against the impact of hunger. Check out www.graceoffice.org for more information or to sign up!
